The bear is eating the compost, the deer are eating the beans, but the tomatoes are thriving in their new greenhouse.

It doesn’t look very square in this photo, but I can assure you that it’s all level and square. And finished! The greenhouse is filled with varieties of heirloom tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. I’m looking forward to the harvest.

Every day a large deer has been sneaking into the yard to snack on our bush beans. Usually the dog chases it off, and then it circles around and comes right back. Cheeky deer. When we were finishing the greenhouse, the dog tore off into the bushes after a deer. Only when I got closer, it wasn’t a deer. The crazy dog was nose-to-tail with a young black bear who had been rummaging in the compost next door. Did you know that bears hiss? The dog came tearing back to us, hair on end in a mohawk.
